My wife texted me from the local thrift shop, saying that “there’s a cool bike here you should see.”

Which is a pretty exciting thing for her to say. Thrift store bikes can be dicey, but she knows her stuff. The green, the vibe and the components are all not so bad, and the price was right. At first the idea was to try it out, ride it a bit and maybe sell it.

Then my wife tried it, and then it became her new bike.

As with anything used, it needed some work when we first got it. The brakes were janky, the tires were basically dead, the seat was at a weirdo angle (why do people insist on riding their bikes with insane seat positions?), but after an hour of work it was feeling pretty shreddy. Like it’ll have a great time bombing down to the brewery, hopping off curbs and stuff.

It needs a bit more work, so I’m gonna take another shot at it this winter. I’ll update some stuff, get some new parts and make it sick.

No it’s not a high-end mountain bike with XTR and all these boutique parts, but it’s a easy-to-maintain fun bike that will not quit, and there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s a green, Canadian, steel 90s mountain bike. We took it camping the week after we got it, and to be honest I kept stealing it because it was so fun to ride.

My wife loves it too. She said that it made her actually want to ride a bike, and that it was the first comfy bike she’s ridden in a while. If it gets her out on a bike more, I’m all for it.

It’s sick, so fuck yes.
